Shirley Ernst-survivor: My Story

In November 2009, as a 13 year breast cancer survivor, I walked the Susan G. Komen 3-day for the Cure walk for the first time in San Diego.  This 60-mile walk raised 9.5 million dollars to support research and breast related care.  I am proud to say that $3600 of that came from my supporters.  Less than two weeks after the walk was over I decided that it was important for me to be involved beyond this first year, so in 2010, as a member of The Pink Angels team, I walked in Boston in July, and  in November  in San Diego again.  2011 found me walking in Tampa and Arizona, and in 2012 I walked Boston iand Minnesota.  In 2013 I was part of the last Boston walk in July and then joined The Kindred Spirits and walked in Seattle in September.  I walked in Seattle and San Diego in 2014 and Seattle and Atlanta in 2015, both years with the Kindred Spirits. I walked again in 2016 in Seattle and San Diego, and in 2017 I walked in Seattle in September as well as in San Diego the weekend before Thanksgiving. In 2018 I walked in Dallas and in Seattle. and in 2019 I walked in Boston the first weekend in September and in Seattle the very next weekend.  I was registered to walk in 2020 in Boston in August and Chicago in September but with the covid crisis these walks were postponed until 2021, so of course I added the other two walks (Dallas & San Diego). In 2022 I walked all four walks.  There were five walks in 2023 and I was able to raise enough to do all five walks.  Each walk requires me to raise $2300 in order to participate, for a total of $11,500.    Now I am working on raising money for the three 2024 walks I hope to do,  If you browse the following pages you will be able to see the kinds of crochet critters, FLOOZIES and other crocheted items I offer my donors as a gift for their donation.  I hope you will see something you like and make a donation so that I can continue to fund these ever important walks.  Our goal is a world without breast cancer and the proceeds of this fundraising go toward that goal.  Please help me reach my fundraising goal and put a stop to breast cancer.  You can contact me at donate@crochet4thecure.com
